Mariupol bids to become “Youth Capital of Ukraine”

Mariupol joins to a pilot project and applies aproject for participation in the National Contest “Youth Capital of Ukraine”. Todaya showcase of the project was presented in the NGO “Mariupol development fund”with participation of youth organizations, studentship, municipaladministration and civil activists.
The winning in the competition will bring to the citya wide advertising campaign at the European level and will provide newopportunities for promotion of partnership between young people and localauthorities. This cooperation will make possible the creation of favorableconditions for development of youth initiatives and solving migration problems.
“Nowadays about 54% of youth wishes to leave Ukraineand build their future outside the country. Our task is to keep theirminds, increase the level of responsibility and enable young people to developthemselves and develop Ukraine”, said Alexei Kopatko, the Coordinator of thecontest "Youth Capital of Ukraine” in Mariupol.
The ambitious task is set before the youth capital ofUkraine - to work out a plan for development of youth policy, and support youthinitiatives and ideas for the next 3-5 years, and as a priority, to opencreative clusters and youth centers for development of social projects.
The initiative was designed in the contest of the "EuropeanYouth Capital", which is successfully implemented since 2008 year.Initiators of the contest are the Ministry of Youth and Sport in Ukraine,Ukrainian Institute of International Policy and National Youth Council inUkraine.
The coordinator of the contest in Mariupol is a non-governmentalorganization “Mariupol Youth Union”.
