Today a target program of the sport’s development “Be string, inspire, be the first” was presented in Mariupol. It provides a complex modernization of sports infrastructure of the city aiming at increasing the number of residents up to 100 thousand by involvement in sport activities.

Mayor of Mariupol Vadim Boichenko, and General Director of FC Shakhtar Sergei Palkin presented the program.

During five years, high-grade modern sports complex with swimming pools, treadmills, equipment for gymnasts, wrestlers, boxers and soccer players will be equipped in every district of the city. About 150 sports facilities will be built on the school grounds. Also, there will be created a training center for coaches and about 100 public sports clubs.

In five years, Mariupol will become a sport symbol of the East of Ukraine. There will be a unique football complex in the country, located on the seacoast. We will develop a mini-football. Multifunctional fields will appear in every school. Mariupol will become a center for development of youth football”, - as the Mayor’s press service quotes.

According to opinion of Sergei Palkin, the city is worthy of such a present: “Mariupol is an industrial city, the city which needs to pay high attention to the development of a mass sport. In fact, sport is healthy and active lifestyle. Today, health is one of the key priorities for the development of a modern society”.

The project became possible thanks to the re-registration of FC Shakhtar in Mariupol, which will bring additional financial resources to the city.

FC Shakhtar was met with a flash mob and a parade, and young athletes were able to communicate personally, get autographs and take a selfie with the legendary club captain Darijo Srna.
