Today a new project “Became a new Mariupol public servant” has started in Mariupol. The aim of the project is to support teachers and employees of municipal structures to improve their professional skills. The initiative is implemented in the frame of the programme “Ukraine Confidence Building Initiative (UCBI)” financed by the U.S. Agency or International Development (USAID).

The round table was conducted in order to discuss challenges and perspectives related to the implementation of the education reform in Mariupol. Schoolmasters, teachers, deputies, representatives of local authorities and public took part in the event. The question on the agenda was to discover qualities, skills and knowledge that an educator should have, as well as what programs should be applied for the improvement of professional skills.

As Uliana Tokareva, the Head of the Regional Center for Training and Development of NGO Mariupol Development Fund, admitted the project “Became a new Mariupol public servant” allowed to reveal which competencies personnel should improve to be more efficient in their professional field. 150 people can take part in the programme. First part of them will represent an educational field, the second one – local self-governing bodies.

“We see the potential in educators that will change society for better”, - Uliana Tokareva emphasized.

Katerina Sukhomlinova, the representative of the parents’ committee, hopes that Mariupol teachers will obtain the best world practices: “Today we understand that changes are inevitable. I am sure many educators are ready for them. Our goal is to give an opportunity to show educators’ potential”.

Tetiana Lugova, the deputy schoolmaster of the secondary school №15, brought up a discussion about skills which acting schoolmaster should have: “A schoolmaster is not only a high-level manager but a leader in education field.He/she takes a huge responsibility to the shoulders. Such person should build confidence together with educators, parents and students themselves by his/her forces. That is why a person must grow to be better and also understand what direction to choose”.

Nataliya Zioma, a schoolmaster of the secondary school №10 supported the programme. She admitted that we should reveal ouradvantages and disadvantages for the effective development. In this case, the project opens up new opportunities for personal and professional growth.
